Our EYFS Vision

At Shepherdswell CEP School, our vision for the Early Years Foundation Stage is rooted in our Christian belief that every child is created in the image of God, uniquely gifted and deserving of unconditional love, dignity and opportunity.

Through our vision - “Fulfilling our God-given potential” - we strive to ensure that each child is nurtured, valued and empowered to grow into the person God has created them to be.

As a school family with God at the centre, our EYFS provision reflects love, hope, justice and compassion. We share God’s love in our interactions, our curriculum and our environment, and we teach children to stand up for what is right, protecting those with no voice and showing kindness to all.

Every child in our care is cherished as special and unique. Their individual needs, strengths and experiences shape their Shepherdswell learning journey, enabling all children to flourish, grow and thrive from the very beginning of their education.

Our EYFS Ethos

Our ethos flows from our Christian vision and the principles that underpin learning and life at Shepherdswell.

1. A School Family With God at the Centre

We create an environment where love, compassion, gratitude and justice guide our actions. Children learn that they are loved by God, valued by others, and capable of contributing positively to their community and the world.

2. Every Child is Valued, Cherished and Known

We recognise the worth of each child as a unique individual with God-given gifts. Their needs, interests and identities shape our daily practice, ensuring that every child feels seen, heard and celebrated.

3. Flourishing for All

Our early years environment is a place where children grow spiritually, emotionally, socially and academically. We provide the security, encouragement and challenge needed for each child to flourish and fulfil their God-given potential.

4. Love, Gratitude, Determination and Justice

These values shape our daily life in the EYFS:

  • Love in the way we care, interact and build relationships

  • Gratitude in how we appreciate one another and our world

  • Determination in developing resilient, courageous learners

  • Justice in teaching fairness, respect and standing up for others

5. Learning Power and Positive Habits for Life

We teach children how to learn, how to persevere, and how to respond to challenges with courage.

6. An Ethos of Curiosity, Wonder and Joy

We believe learning is a gift. We nurture curiosity through rich experiences, meaningful play and exploration of God’s world indoors, outdoors and through Forest School.

7. Language, Communication and Connection

We prioritise communication and language development as a foundation for relationships, understanding and learning. Vocabulary is taught explicitly, modelled positively and woven throughout all interactions.

8. Standing Up for Others and Showing Compassion

Inspired by Jesus’ example, we teach children to be advocates for fairness and to show kindness to those who need support. Justice begins in early childhood: sharing, fairness, empathy and doing what’s right.

9. Partnership With Families and Community

Families are central to our school family. We build relationships rooted in trust, warmth and respect, recognising that children thrive when home and school work closely together.
